Keep your pet safe and happy this 4th of July

july-4thIt’s that time of year again, FIREWORKS! FIREWORKS! FIREWORKS!

The Fourth of July is a few days away and it’s important to remember this can be a very frightening time for pets. The loud sounds of fireworks can result in pets running away and becoming disoriented and lost. July 5th is one of the busiest days of year for shelters due to pets being lost.

We recommend the following tips when caring for your pets during the 4th of July holiday:

  • Keep pets indoors in a safe room.
  • Block outside sights and sounds by lowering the blinds and turning on the television. Play soothing music to counteract the loud sounds going on outside
  • Make sure they have proper identification in case they get lost. Collars and tags can fall off so make sure you have permanent ID with a microchip. Keep contact information current with your recovery service provider for the microchip.
  • If your pet seems overly anxious, spend some time with your pet, speaking soothingly to help them to relax.
  • Make sure to avoid the table scraps as this can cause pets to have an upset stomach. Some foods can be very toxic and should be avoided at all costs, like onions, avocado, grapes and raisins.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at West Eugene Animal Hospital at 541-342-5858,

Have a happy 4th of July.
